What Is RPL?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process whereby the experience, skills and knowledge Australian Defence members have gained, can be converted into civilian industry-recognised qualifications that employers recognise and value. Gaining qualifications through RPL opens doors to new careers in a range of industries including the government and private sectors.

How Is RPL Gained?

Instead of re-entering the classroom and covering topics already learned in the workplace, qualifications can be gained through RPL. The RPL process includes an assessment of your skills and knowledge against the outcomes of the relevant course. The process involves providing evidence to demonstrate certain areas of learning that have been covered in the workplace. Our skilled team undertakes the assessment process to determine if RPL can be awarded, or if an action plan is needed to fulfil the knowledge or skills gaps required to meet the qualifications for further training. This area of experience needs to be current and relevant to the course or qualification.

Candidates considering RPL must have a minimum of six months relevant experience within the past three years to apply.

The expertise gained serving as a Defence member quickly adds up and RPL is one way to harness that valuable experience by gaining an industry-recognised qualification to help transition successfully from Defence to the civilian workforce.
